Windows Live Blogger

I have tried a lot of blog editing software.  There is a lot of great free software available for Windows bloggers out there.  Some highlights include BlogDesk and w.Blogger.  This weekend however, I installed Windows Live Writer on a whim.  I had read that it was a great piece of software and that it even posted to WordPress powered blogs.  So I decided to give it whirl.

I am so glad I did.  This is one fantastic piece of software.  It really does make blogging easier.  At least for me.  It grabs my blogs style so that when I edit posts, I see what they will look like in real time.  No more guessing on those photo dimensions to make sure everything lines up right.  I can post-date posts, which is a big deal for me since I (try to) write posts in advance.  I can edit categories, tags, and even my excerpts without ever having to log into WordPress’s administration page.  Pretty slick stuff.

No, I wasn’t paid by anyone to say this stuff.  I really do enjoy the product and I’ve only had it installed for a couple of days.  It really seems to fill my needs quite nicely.  So, if you haven’t tried it yet, download Windows Live Writer, and give it a try.

Digital Movie Downloads Will NOT Kill Blu-Ray

With last week’s death march for HD-DVD, many have been saying that Blu-Ray’s victory will be short lived.  The reason for this is because several people seem to believe that digital movie downloads will kill physical media, including (but not limited to Blu-Ray).  This clam, while extremely plausible in the next 5 years, is ludicrous from the "anytime soon" standpoint.  Digital movie downloads are not endangering Blu-Ray for two simple reasons.

What’s the Point of Protecting Twitter Updates?

I was randomly searching for people to follow on Twitter. Decided I would type in “Houston, TX” since I live in the Houston area so I could follow some local folks. Start looking through the 21 pages of results and I find at least two or three people on every page have their updates protected.

What’s the point?

I mean a part of me gets it. You don’t want the entire world to read your updates. But at the same time, why sign up for an overly social site if you’re going to basically be anti-social? It seems counter-productive to me. Maybe, I’m just a little more open with my updates, but I also wouldn’t post something that I was not comfortable with the whole world knowing anyway. I guess I’m just careful like that.

Anyone have any thoughts on this matter? Are you someone who has their Twitter updates set to private? If so, why? I would really like to know and understand.
