Sun to Purchase MySQL
Sun acquiring MySQL is big deal for many reasons, but the biggest reason probably has to do with the fact that this brings global support to the database engine. MySQL, is hands down one of the most popular open source database engines on the market today. Some of the most popular websites in the world are based on it (Google & Facebook comes to mind). This acquisition is just what MySQL needed to goto the next level. I for one am glad to see this happen because it gives that extra bit credibility to the software that some executives needed in order to be able to place their faith in it. Continue reading

Trent Reznor, NiggyTardust, & the ISP Music Tax
Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails) has released the stats from the NiggyTardust experiment. For this experiment, 3 versions of the the Niggy Tardust album were released in a digital format. One in 192kbps, one in 320kbps, and finally a FLAC (loseless) version. For limited time you were able to download the 192kbps for free and you could pay $5 and get any one of the 3 versions of your choice. A great test to see what kind of money could be made from such distribution. Continue reading

MacWorld 2008 Predictions Follow-up
So my total score was like 4 out 9 (if you count my SDK addendum, which there was a small mention of the SDK but no firm release date). So for the first of Almost, Not Yet Macworld Predictions, not a bad score. Yes, it’s less than half, but Apple announcement have been known to be changed at the last minute so who knows. You pretty much have to predict a lot of stuff to get even one thing right it seems with these things. It was fun and we will definitely do it again next year. Continue reading
