Firefox 3 Beta 4 Improves Memory Usage
Yesterday Mozilla released the latest Firefox 3 beta (Beta 4) and with that release we see improvements in the memory usage of Firefox. Firefox 2.0 has been the center of memory scrutiny pretty much since its release but that starts to see a light at the end of a dark tunnel in Firefox 3.
The people of the Firefox community have posted a couple of really nice posts that explain the memory problems and what they have done to fix them.
These posts are a great read if you are interested in seeing performance numbers and stuff like that. If you are not into that kind of thing, well then that’s okay, you’re not missing much. The only thing that really matters is the fact that Firefox 3 will help quell the memory complaints a lot of people have with Firefox.
Go Firefox team!

Third Party Desktop Applications in a Web 2.0 World
Over the past few weeks, we’ve talked about API (development interfaces) for some of the web applications that exist today (Pownce being a huge focus as they just released their full API). Everyone has been big on Pownce releasing a full API because without it, the chances of competing with Twitter were extremely small. The main reason API’s are a big deal is because they allow people to build on the web application, in many cases creating a desktop application for that web application. Twitter is a perfect example of this. There are several desktop Twitter applications that allow users to follow and post to Twitter from their desktop, without ever having to visit the Twitter website. Why build desktop applications when web applications are getting more complex and essentially becoming full-featured applications in their own right? Are desktop applications important in a Web 2.0, software as a service world? I want to look at that a little bit today.

Down on Apple?
Last week, Engadget had post about a possible second generation iPhone leak (New iPhone Design Leaked on iTunes? Highly Unlikely). In the comments of this post you’ll find a couple of people really dissing Apple in an extremely horrendous way. This is something that seems to have become sort of sport on the internet lately. How bad can you insult Apple. It is basically nothing but trolling, and normally one should not feed the trolls but I just had to post something because lately this kind of thing has really gotten to me.
