Must Have Linux Applications
This past weekend, Lifehacker had a nice link to an article on applications for an Ubuntu Newbie. This is all well and good, but there seems to be some kind of misconception about Ubuntu and Linux. And that misconception is that they are not the same thing. People say “Ubuntu” like they are not talking about Linux. Ubuntu Linux vs. Windows Vista
I am okay with Windows being better in most cases, because Microsoft spends money on development, research, and user testing to ensure they have all the kinks worked out before shipping a product (at least for the most part). Microsoft has an entire team of people paid to do nothing more than work on the Windows operating system. While several of the Linux developers are now paid, there are still a lot of them that are not. They also do not have the research and user testing budgets the Microsoft has. Continue reading

I had a dilemma. I have a pretty good sized music collection, and only three quarters of it on my computer at my office and the rest of it on my computer at home. Digital Consumer Enablement
This idea is not only silly but absolutely idiotic. The idea of naming something that directly disables a consumers use of a product as an “enablement” is absurd. Beside, changing the name is not going to accomplish anything. People are still going to hate it, they are going to speak against it, and they are going to find ways around it. The fact that someone would think that changing the name is going to make things any better is idealistic at best. Continue reading →
