There has been a lot of unrest due to people using Snap Preview Anywhere on their websites. Personally I kind of like the idea of it, but I have yet to find a way to limit the pop ups to only appearing on comments, where I think that the preview Snap provides has value. Most people find them annoying as well as distracting.
So, in an effort to keep my website free of distractions and annoyances I have removed the Snap Preview Anywhere javascript code thus removing the previews from my site. I think most people will follow suit eventually depending on the response they get from their users.
Again, I think that the Snap previews are pretty nifty but really only serve a purpose on comments to preview a commenter’s website or a trackback link. Maybe if there was a way to limit the previews only to that aspect of a post, people would not find them so annoying.
Probably you know, but there is a plugin for both Firefox and IE6 (IE7 coming up) called “CoolIris Preview” which performs a similar function, but you can choose if you want the preview (pop-up) or not in various ways. It has other cool features besides, mainly in the Firefox version, which is what I use most of the the time. A possible alternative to Snap?
