Thrifty Domestica Thinks “Micro-blogging is for Nerds”

My good friend Rachel over at the website, Thrifty Domestica got into a discussion about micro-blogging today.  When I asked her if she was going to start micro-blogging, she told me that she was going to write a post about how ridiculous micro-blogging was.  I told her “if you write it, I’ll link it” and so here we are.  Rachel’s thoughts on micro-blogging.

Micro-blogging is for Nerds

In response, I think that she understands the point, but doesn’t understand the conversation aspect of it.  When you record those little thoughts that one can’t always pan out into a full fledge 500-ish word blog post, someone might become inspired and make that post for you.  That person might have a perspective that you don’t have.  I know that there are a lot of wasted ideas out there, heck there are several a day that don’t make it to here from my end.

Either way, it’s interesting food for thought.  Check out the post, leave a comment your two.

And People Tell Me I Have a Lot of Music

Many would say I own a lot of music.  My friends make fun of me because I still actually buy music on a routine basis.  I constantly search used CD stores for items I may be missing and routinely borrow my friends CDs to listen to music.  I currently own close to 650 CDs and that grows every year, but this guy puts me to shame.

Over 6 million recorded songs.  Man, if the collection didn’t start at 3 million dollars, I’d buy it, in a heartbeat.  Well if I win that 220 million dollar lotto jackpot tonight, maybe I will.  But that’s reaching and not overly realistic.  Still 6 million songs is quite a few.

Forget cowbell, I think someone is going to need more hard drive space.

Get Your Reading On: Social Networks for Readers

Today, in our final post on using technology to further your reading, we will look at some social networks that are centered around the readers of the world. For those that are new to the idea of a “social network” just think of a social network as a country club (without that stereotypical snobbiness) that is centered around a particular concept. Website likes Facebook and MySpace are social networks to the fullest extent in that, they center around your social circle, whom you know and how. There are other social networks out there like Digg (news), Flixster (movies), and even Twitter (conversation) are all extremely social and centered around something very particular. So now that you understand what a social network is (at least in a very general sense) we can look at the two social networks centered around reading (I’m sure there are more than 2 but the two I’m looking at are the most popular).
