FTC May Regulate PayPerPost

The Washington Post is reporting that the Federal Trade Commision is working to regulat PayPerPost posts on websites. Saying that people who are paid to posts that promote products to their peers and readers will need to disclose those relationships. From the article:

The FTC said it would investigate cases where there is a relationship between the endorser of a product and the seller that is not disclosed and could affect the endorsement. The FTC staff said it would go after violators on a case-by-case basis.

In my opinion, anyone caught not already disclosing relationships for their paid posts is going to lose a lot of credibility. Other news outlets already have to disclose such relationships, so why would blogs and personal websites be any different. I know that for me, if I was ever paid to post a bout about a topic that I would let my readers know about it right off the bat. I would also not take a payment for a post where I could not give my unfiltered opinion on something be it a product, service, or web page. But then again, that is just me.

Robots Are Cool

Microsoft has released their Robotics Studio to the public. This is pretty cool. If you have supported hardware (some Lego Mindstorm products or a Roomba, amoung others) you can program them in Visual Basic, C# or even IronPython (a CLR version of Python).

I think this is pretty cool just because robots have always interested me. I personally do not currently own any Lego Mindstorm products but think they are interesting as well. Now with the ability to program them in C# (my language of choice), I might just go and pick something up just to see what I can do with it.

I wonder how long until someone codes a robot to follow the three laws.

Del.icio.us “for” Tags RSS Feeds

I just discovered something really cool on del.icio.us, a social bookmarking website.

One of the things you can do with del.icio.us is tag bookmarks “for” other people in your network. So if you found something that you think I might like you would tag it with “for:mkoby” and I would see it on my del.icio.us account. Well I was wondering if there was a way to have those “for” links come to me instead of me going to the del.icio.us website and looking at them. Behold I found a solution. If you have a del.icio.us account here’s how you would do it.

1) Login to your del.icio.us account
2) Goto http://del.icio.us/for/%5Busername%5D replacing [username] with your username.
3) At the bottom of this page is a RSS icon (see image).

sshot-2

4) Add that RSS link to your favorite RSS reader and BAM. You have your “for” feeds coming to you (see image, click for larger image).

sshot-1

While I am sure others have already figured this out, this is something new to me so I thought I would share it with others. Pretty nifty.
