Today I did my civic duty and I voted. It seems everyone went to the electronic voting machines this year. Can’t say I totally like that idea. I know that might sound weird coming from a person who is usually so pro-technology, but there is just too much room for error in those systems that it freaks me out. If the republicans win (which is the side I voted for BTW), I think people will chalk it up to a huge conspiracy theory about how they hacked the electronic voting machines.
To have electronic voting machines without the paper backup to me is just not solid enough of a system to feel okay. I also think that the software and compiler for the electronic voting machines should be open sourced so that everyone can see the source code. The way it stands right now, a single company holds the software under lock and key. They decide if it is ok and up to snuff. This is not okay with me. If the software was open sourced, then anyone could see it, and see that it has not been tampered with.
But if you have not voted, you are of age, and the polls are still open in your area, please get out there and vote.
