I just finished listening to Kay Hanley’s latest CD “Babydoll EP” (click on album cover to hear samples & purchase). For those that do not aleady know, Kay Hanley was the lead singer for 90’s rock outfit called Letters to Cleo and is the singing voice of Josie in the Rachel Leigh Cook movie “Josie and the Pussycats.” This is her second solo studio record since the split of Letters to Cleo (“Cherry Marmalade” was the first) and is more of the same.
Do not misunderstand that as a bad thing. If it’s one thing Kay Hanley does well it’s good girl rock/pop songs. Forget Alanis and Sheryl, Kay Hanley reall does rock out. This is proven in songs like “Te Amo” and “Lullaby Lucky” and this does not mean she is without a soft side. The title track is a perfect ballad-ish tune. If you’re looking for good girl rock look no further than this CD.
