Music Organization Tips
Organizing your digital music collection is pretty time consuming. You probably have a large collection of mp3 files that you have accumulated over the years, either by ripping your own CDs or getting your files from other sources. You probably have a huge number of files that are mis-tagged, wrongly named, or you just do not know what they are. So over the next few weeks we are going to look at ways to get your digital music collection in order. We will cover metadata, figuring out what those unknown tracks are, and getting those files organized so you can find them later.
This series will last a couple of weeks and we will use a variety of tools to do it, below is a list of those tools. I would advise downloading them now rather than later, but that is up to you. Having them downloaded will make them easier to find and install when you need them later. Some of these are free, while others are not.
| Music Brainz Classic Tagger | We will be using this to figure out what those unknown tracks are. |
| Tag & Rename | This will be used for the actual tagging of the files. Tag & Rename cost money to register and you only have a limited trial offer. So if you do not plan on purchasing the full program, wait to install this until we use it. Though, I recommend this program highly and vouche that it is worth the price of registration |
| BPM Analyzer | This will allow us to calculate the beats per minute in our mp3 files. |
Those are some tools we will start with. We might go over a couple of more, but we are definitely going to be using those. So be back here next week for the next part of our Music Organization Tips series.

Sirius Dropping Revolution
Sirius Satellite Radio is going to perform a channel update tomorrow. Through this update they will add some new channels and take some old ones away. I am excited to get new channels, you never know what that might bring to your ears and as music lover that is always a good thing.
The downside this time around is that my favorite channel is being taken off the air. The channel in question, Revolution, channel 67. This is a Christian rock music station one of the stations I was so excited to get over a year ago. You see, getting a station where I can hear new Christian rock music on a regular basis is something I have longed for but it seems no one is really willing to launch one. The few that have launched have always failed miserably. When Sirius announced that they were adding such a channel, it made me that much happier that I had chosen to go with them when I made my satellite radio purchase decision.
The removal of this channel has made me highly reconsider my subscription to the service. Revolution was a channel that I loved so much that all the other channels I had listened to before it went on the air got a drastic drop in listening time because I was listening to Revolution. My original reaction was to head over to XM’s website and see about switching to them, but after looking at their latest channel lineup, they no longer have a true Christian rock station and have merged theirs with their Christian pop/praise channel, just like Sirius is doing.
So what is a Christian rock music lover to do? There is no real Christian rock station here in the Houston area (KSBJ is not Christian rock). I have found a couple of Shoutcast stations online, but I can not take these with me in my car. The reason I liked listening to Revolution was because I found out about bands I had never heard of before, so I could find new music to listen to. Even though I have an iPod and large music collection, listening to the music I already have makes it incredibly difficult to find new music to listen to.
Anyone have any ideas on where I can go for good Christian rock music?

Killer Flagship Content by ChrisG (Review)
I just finished reading Killer Flagship Content by Chris Garrett of currently of ChrisG.com and (formally?) Performancing.com. This fourteen page ebook that comes as a free gift when subscribing to the RSS feed for ChrisG.com is a great beginning resource for any new blogger. In fact, it is probably one of newest must read resources for a new blogger.
While many will argue that what is said in Killer Flagship Content has been said before by just about every blogger teaching others how to blog, it is nice to have the high points in one fourteen page supplement that new writers can be pointed to for easy reading. Chris puts everything in very simple terms and makes it easy to understand where he is going within the first five pages. The lists, tips, and insight he gives is something that I wish was available to me before I launched this website. Granted, I am not ashamed of anything I have done so far, I just feel that I could have started out better rather than learning 4-6 months later what I should have been doing from the start.
The idea of flagship content, is something that new bloggers need to focus on. There is a lot of "doing what that guy is doing" in the blogosphere these days. Having original content to point new readers to is something that is very important for a new writer to focus on. If you are new to blogging or known someone who is thinking of getting into the market, then you should point them to ChrisG.com where they can subscribe to the RSS feed and get a free copy of Killer Flagship Content. They will definitely want to add ChrisG.com’s RSS feed to their favorite RSS reader since Chris specializes in helping bloggers succeed.
