When it comes to iPods and digital music, one of the most important questions that I get asked is about the relationship between mp3 quality (kbps) and file size. One of the biggest questions that gets asked is “just exactly how much can I fit onto my iPod?” and thanks to folks at iLounge, this question just got a whole lot easier to answer.
Today, iLounge announced their iPod Storage Calculator. Here, you type in an average song duration and then select the size of the iPod and it gives you the number of songs for nine different file qualities (128-Lossless). To put this thing to the test, I exported my iTunes library of 13800 songs and figured out the average length of 4 minutes and 9 seconds. You can get 19500 songs on a 80GB iPod at 128kbps. At my bitrate choice of 256 you can get 9700 songs.
Cool tool!
