AOL to Offer 5 Gigabytes of Space Free

Here is an article that talks about how AOL is going to begin next month by offering 5 gigabytes of space online for people to backup their documents, photos, and such to. The will be doing this via their service. The files will be accessible from any PC with an internet connection and they are going to allow the ability to share files with other users. Pretty nifty features. People with AOL and AIM accounds will be able to access this as early as next month. And a 50GB premium version is rumor to be in the works as well, for a fee of course.

Another article via BetaNews can be found here.

I think this is pretty nifty. The advantage here is the ability to access the files from any PC with an internet connection and the ability to share files. However it lacks the encryption of Mozy which leaves the files somewhat vunerable and while I pay a small price to for the same amount of space ($20/year) I feel it’s worth it to have my stuff backed up and know that it would take at least a little work for someone to hack it.
